While we cherish the festivities of Christmas Day, Boxing Day sales can be equally joyous for those of us who adore a great deal. After all, Santa can’t always be trusted to tick off the entirety of our wishlists; occasionally, we have to take matters into our own hands.

As one of the biggest sale events of the year, rivalled only by Black Friday, Boxing Day sales are delivering huge savings across a wide range of dreamy product categories. And given that the event falls on the day after Christmas, it’s the perfect opportunity to take a break from gifting and treat yourself to something nice.

However, as is the case with most sales of this magnitude, getting in quick is a must. So, to help you build a shopping list that doesn’t inspire post-purchase regret, we’ve rounded up answers to all your Boxing Day-related questions, insights into this year’s deals (both current and upcoming), and all the items that we’re eager to add to our own carts.

Shopping tip: Oftentimes, many items that were are discounted during Black Friday go back on sale for Boxing Day, so use this opportunity to pick up any pieces you may have missed.

If you’re after a little inspiration for your Boxing Day sales wishlist, I’m here to help. Below, you’ll find all the pieces I’m coveting this festive season, all at a beautifully discounted price. From bedding and homewares to furniture and appliances, these are the pieces worth taking home.

Looking for something specific?

The best 2025 Boxing Day sales on bedding

What to look for: Linen, bamboo, and percale cotton bedding sets for cooler, more comfortable summer nights

This past Black Friday, I made a grave mistake. Whilst shopping for brand-new summer bedding, I snapped up a beautiful linen sheet set from Bed Threads (this exact one, if you’re interested) without committing to the duvet cover I also had my eye on. By the time I realised my faux pas, the sale had ended. However, now that Bed Thread’s Boxing Day sale is live, I can finally right my Black Friday wrong.

I’ve curated a collection of my favourite bedding to inspire your own Boxing Day shopping. And please, don’t repeat my mistakes; if you love a bedding set, commit to every piece. Buy once, cry once, as I always say.

The best Boxing Day sales on homewares

I’ve talked before about my quest to refresh my own interiors before, but I haven’t yet covered my strategy. Like all savvy shoppers, I try to wait until sale season to take home my most coveted homewares; a new collection of cushions and throws can cost hundreds, but during the Boxing Day sales, you can stage an entire overhaul of accent pieces (guided by our top trend predictions of 2026) for much less.

In 2025, cushions, throw blankets, throws, and coffee table books are populating my wishlist, and these are the ones I’m prioritising; get them before I do.

The best Boxing Day sales on furniture

Regardless of how well-loved one’s sofa may be, it can be difficult to justify such a big purchase in the name of aesthetics. That is, unless it’s on sale.

I’m still on the hunt for the perfect sofa for a particularly inconveniently shaped living room, and I’m hoping to secure my dream piece during this year’s Boxing Day sales. And if you are also looking to tick off a specific ‘white whale’ furniture buy, now’s the time to do it.

For a little sale-season inspiration, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite furniture finds of the year so you can add them to your very own Boxing Day wishlist.

The best Boxing Day sales on appliances

With a new year comes the chance to upgrade your appliance rotation, simplify your life, and get set up for a fresh start; that’s why I’m picking up a brand new blender during the Boxing Day sales. After all, there’s no better way to get those much-needed nutrients for a new year’s health kick.

What to look for: If you have a specific appliance in mind, check out a few retailers to see who has the best deal.

Need to know: Australia’s 2025 Boxing Day sales

When is Boxing Day 2025?

Boxing Day always lands on December 26th, which in 2025, will be a Friday.

How long do Boxing Day sales run?

The start and end dates of Boxing Day sales vary between retailers. However, in previous years, I’ve seen sales start popping up weeks ahead of the 26th and running until the new year.

How does Boxing Day compare to other sale events?

Boxing Day is regularly regarded as one of the biggest sale events of the year, rivalled only by the likes of Black Friday. Shoppers can expect big savings on a range of product categories, spanning furniture, homewares, clothing, tech, and appliances; last year, we saw savings of 20-50% (or more) from some of our favourite brands.

It’s a great opportunity to take home some wishlist items that Santa may not have followed through with, or pick up big-ticket items that don’t usually fall within budget.

What are the best pieces to buy during Boxing Day?

Big-ticket items and pieces you forgot to pick up during the Black Friday sales are great purchases to make during 2025’s Boxing Day sales.

Which is best: Boxing Day or Black Friday?

Boxing Day is of a similar scale to Black Friday but occurs after Christmas. So, if you’ve missed out on a good sale on a wishlist item, Boxing Day is your last chance before the new year to add to cart at a discount.

Tara Dennis lives and breathes Christmas. In her Balmain homewares haven, she’s forever swapping jingling bells for evergreen wreaths, only to see them whisked away by inspired shoppers. “Even yesterday, I was chopping things down, thinking, ‘What goes here next?’ It’s an ever-evolving Christmas theme,” she laughs. Nothing stays the same for long.

On any given day, Tara might be scaling a ladder with a champagne bucket under one arm and linen napkins in the other, or tweaking festive windows late at night to spark tomorrow’s ideas. “My magic is making home feel like home – the best it can be,” she says. “Retail is just an extension of what I did on TV. I’m still helping people create beautiful spaces.”

Her genius approach to styling takes the stress out of decorating. Simple, heartfelt tips that work with what you already own, and won’t blow the budget.

Listen to Tara’s brilliant Christmas decorating ideas on The Edit – a new podcast by Home Beautiful

In her own home, Christmas begins in the most magical way – on Christmas Eve. After weeks of styling countless trees for her store, Tara finally turns her creative energy homeward. When the last happy customer leaves and the shop doors close, the family heads to their river house, ready to embrace the season.

A glass of champagne marks the end of the busiest stretch and the start of a well-earned celebration. With her husband and son – both as passionate about the season as she is – Tara transforms their river house into a festive sanctuary.

This year, Tara’s Christmas table celebrates the ultimate icon of summer – the pineapple. Inspired by its fresh, sun-kissed palette of soft yellows and vibrant greens, her setting begins with an elegant block-printed linen tablecloth. Down the centre runs a lush evergreen garland, accented with colour-matched baubles and ribbons for a look that feels effortless yet elevated.

Tara’s skill in reinventing what you already own to create a festive look is her secret weapon and something she’s honed over years of visual merchandising. It’s not difficult to achieve. “If customers don’t have a lot of money to spend, I’ll say OK, great, let’s get some ribbon. Let’s dolly up what you had last year and make it better,” says Tara. “Do you have some decorations from your tree left over from last year? Maybe you can add those to a new wreath and make it more personal and yours. It’s the little touches…”

Each year, Tara’s Christmas style draws on trends she spots during her travels. This season, it’s all about layering personality into the table. Dust off Grandma’s candlesticks (tapered candles are having a major moment) and line them down the centre for instant elegance. If pineapples aren’t your thing, swap in seasonal touches: split a market bunch of Christmas bush into petite posies or create a fresh herb row with supermarket pots for a simple, chic twist.

The star of Tara’s Christmas menu this year is a pavlova crowned with delicate dried pineapple flowers. “I bought a Sunbeam dehydrator last year, and I got it out again last night to make a whole bunch of pineapple blooms for my pavlova,” she says. Her decorations echo this sunny palette—soft yellows paired with warm brass candlesticks and cream-tinted tapers. By stripping back other colours, Tara lets these tones shine, carrying the theme through with tiny ribbons on glassware and a hint of sparkle in the baubles.

Elle’s Edit: My pre-Christmas preparations list, and why I check it more than twice https://www.homebeautiful.com.au/shopping/from-elle-christmas-2025/ Thu, 11 Dec 2025 05:52:22 +0000 https://www.homebeautiful.com.au/?p=1283743 Editor-in-chief Elle Lovelock shares how she likes to host and entertain, for the festive season and beyond.

The post Elle’s Edit: My pre-Christmas preparations list, and why I check it more than twice appeared first on Home Beautiful.

]]>

Welcome

There’s so much of my life that I’d love to share with you, from my journey as a novice gardener to how I host and entertain. In my job, and over the past 20 years working alongside the best of Australia’s interior designers, decorators, gardeners and hosts, I’ve learnt a lot.

And it’s information I hope you find as helpful and inspiring as I have.

Let me know if there is a topic you’d love me to explore!

The scheme

Every year, I decorate for Christmas with a fairly traditional palette of red, white and green. But I like to tailor it for the occasion.

This year, I’ll be hosting an intimate Christmas dinner, which I want to feel elegant and elevated. I’ll be setting a white-on-white table with layers of crystal stemware and French silver flatware to catch the candlelight. The next morning, the whole family is coming over for brunch, so I’m going Scandi-style with a taupe gingham tablecloth, red berry accents and an abundance of cinnamon-scented pastries and leftover ham (and cheese) on croissants. Relaxed and fun, but still beautiful, the morning will be spent sitting on the living room floor around the Christmas tree sharing gifts and sipping mimosas with Aled Jones’s “Walking in the Air” playing in the background.

A month out

Just like Santa, in the lead-up to Christmas, I make a list. But I check it more than twice. You see, over the years I’ve been caught out on a variety of things – not disasters, but my gosh they’re annoying. Hence, the list. To help The Big Day go a little smoother, here’s what I do. One month out I like to give the house a deep clean, and then just keep on top of things throughout the entertaining season.

It means you’re always ready for impromptu pop-ins. But there are some things you may forget. Like, descaling the coffee machine. It’s maddening to see the little light flash right when you’re taking a post-dinner coffee order.

Next, I turn my attention to food supplies. I order the ham and turkey from the butcher, stock up on pantry treats like posh crackers and Fortnum & Mason Christmas tea. And I buy booze. The well-priced good stuff always goes fast, so if you leave it too late it’ll cost you. One premium bottle of vintage Champers is great, but not when you need to share it between 12 people. Looks a bit stingy.

House clean and pantry stocked, it’s all about decorating. This is when the magic begins.

Two weeks to go

I’ve spent many a Christmas Eve drowning in a sea of wrapping paper, strips of sticky-tape stuck all over the backs of my hands. It’s not calm, it’s not bright. So now I ensure all my gifts are bought and wrapped by the fortnight before Christmas. Setting a festive table, only to discover a stained napkin or two isn’t ideal either, so this is when I launder all the table linens I might want to use. Into a bucket of Vanish they go! If, like me, you love vintage silverware, give it a good polish to avoid tarnishing your celebrations. Speaking of unwelcome surprises, avoid a fizzer of a day and make sure your gas cylinders are all full: sparkling water makers, barbecues, pizza ovens. Again, not a disaster, but annoying.

To really get in the mood, this is when I like to compile my Christmas playlists. Classical choir music for nighttime, jazzy carols for day. Mariah and Wham! for getting ready.

The day before

If you follow my plan, this is when you will be hitting your yuletide stride. With everything in order, you can focus on the final festive flourishes. If you’re expecting overnight guests, this is when to make the beds up – fresh is best. Enjoy setting your dining table, and have a round-the-coffee table picnic for dinner so as not to mess it up. Your partner might think you’ve gone mad, but the kids will love it. And pre-prepare whatever food you can. Trust me, it makes all the difference so you can actually join in the festivities.

The magic of Christmas begins at your front door. A thoughtfully styled entrance doesn’t just look beautiful, it sets the tone for the season and creates a warm welcome for family and friends. From timeless wreaths and lush garlands to lanterns that glow softly through the night, outdoor Christmas decorations are the perfect way to share your festive spirit before anyone steps inside.

Explore our expert tips and curated ideas to inspire a look that’s inviting, stylish, and transforms your facade into a festive masterpiece.

“It’s the first glimpse of your Christmas spirit,” says Jade Pausewang, creative director at Provincial Home Living. Be it a brilliant red bow, twinkling lights or a touch of greenery, small touches bring a sense of warmth and joy. “It’s a simple way to spread a little joy before anyone even steps inside,” she adds.

The front of your home sets the tone for the season ahead. This year, think beyond the basics: layer natural greenery with elegant ribbons, add gentle lighting for ambience, and finish with charming details like potted evergreens or a cheerful doormat. These simple touches elevate your home’s exterior and make every arrival feel special.

“A thoughtfully decorated entrance creates a sense of anticipation and warmth”

Jade Pausewang, creative director at Provincial Home Living

It’s not just the decorative elements that make your home’s entry feel like a breath of fresh air. “A neatly trimmed hedge, freshly swept path or pressure-washed steps instantly elevate your entry,” shares Jade. “A quick coat of paint on the front door or crisp white trims can make everything feel new.” Beyond the threshold, continue that feeling of comfort. “If you have a hall console, it’s the perfect place for candles, a small tree or other decorations,” says Jade.

3 tips for a festive facade

We asked the team at Provincial Home Living to share their advice for making your front entrance shine this Christmas.

1. Start with a beautiful wreath

It’s timeless, inviting and instantly festive. Add a generous bow in a colour that complements your theme or string subtle lights along the roofline or porch.

2. Add naturalistic green garlands

Style them in a slightly undone way, such as draped over archways, wound around verandah posts or trailed along stair rails for a look that feels lush yet effortless.

3. Layer warm, welcoming details

Lanterns or gentle outdoor lighting on either side of your steps adds warmth and ambience. Potted plants or small evergreens tied with a simple red or linen bow give a nod to the season without feeling overdone. Even a festive doormat can subtly lift the mood.

The end of the year is tantalisingly close, and with it comes the promise of long vacations, sleep-ins, and long summer days spent indulging in a little rest and relaxation. As such, there’s never been a better time to upgrade your bedding and loungewear (or give the gift of total comfort to those you love most).

Luckily, Resting, a brand-new sleepwear range, has just launched, courtesy of the brilliant minds behind Sheet Society, and their pieces are beautiful enough to wear through the day as well. Combine one of their new sets with some matching summer bedding, and you’ve just put together the gift of the season.

Gifts for the serious sleeper

Shopping for a loved one who takes their sleep score seriously? These bedroom staples in calming blues and rich browns are bound to hit the mark.

You open them, and you go through into another world.” Whether it’s a chick-lit novel, self-help manual or chunky historical biography, books absolutely transport us, comfort us and offer respite from the stressors of everyday life or — let’s be honest — doomscroll sessions.

The biggest source of escape is arguably beautifully crafted lifestyle hardcopy books, filled with exotic and soul-stirring photographs. Perfect for gifting, coffee-table books especially can inspire and teach, and even improve a person’s life. They look fabulous on display, too.

The Home Beautiful team has carefully curated a list of this year’s best new cooking, gardening and interiors books for the crafty, epicurious and houseproud people in your life. And guess what? They’re all under $78.

I love buying Christmas gifts; to me, there’s nothing sweeter than watching a loved one’s face light up as they peel back layers of wrapping. However, being a great gift giver comes with big expectations, and as such, the process of ticking off my gifting list usually spans weeks (and ends with me pushing through crowds in bustling department stores as Mariah Carey plays in the background).

This year, things will be different; I’m keeping it simpler than ever and wrapping up my present hunt a full month before Christmas. What inspired this shift in strategy, you may ask? The answer: a particularly enticing Black Friday sale from my favourite stockist of glassware, decor, and linens: Maison Balzac.

If you, too, are still looking for the perfect presents, take the easy route and stock up on all your gifting needs while Maison Balzac’s best pieces are still in stock.

The post Elle’s Edit: How to host with heart, style and sparkle this festive season appeared first on Home Beautiful.

Heaven scent

Whenever I clean the house, my four-year-old son asks ‘Who’s coming over?’ It makes me think, do I really only deep clean when we are expecting guests? That’s a worry. But we do entertain quite often, so the house is generally tidy. I was asked recently for my top tips to elevate an interior, and one of them is a fancy, aromatic multi-surface spray. I love the Tasmanian Pepper and Lavender range from Bondi Wash and the Diptyque La Droguerie multi-surface cleaner – sprayed on benchtops, they scent a room quicker than a candle while making things sparkling clean. Bonus tip: use them to wipe down your front door inside and out for a beautifully fragranced welcome.

Walk this way

When people arrive at your home, the most important thing to do is tell them where to go. I know that doesn’t sound very polite, but hear me out. People need to be guided through and invited to sit down. Have you ever gone to someone’s house, only to stand around wondering whether you should loiter in the kitchen or head through to the living room? Set the scene for your guests. A simple “Come on through to the garden and take a seat while I get you a drink” will suffice. A note on drinks: I always keep a bottle of sparkling wine and some sparkling water in my fridge for impromptu get-togethers, but if you know who you’ll be hosting, try to stock up on what your guests might like. It shows you care if you can offer them their favourite beverage. If you don’t know, serve your own favourite and tell them why you love it – it’s a great conversation starter.

It’s a vibe

I love a theme. Not in the kitsch sense, but rather a palette and a feeling that I like to create when I’m hosting. For example, if it’s a lunch where I’m serving pizzas, I might start with Bellinis while I pop arancini in the air fryer, play 1960s Italian pop music and scent my home with vine-tomato candles. Though the pizzas should be cheesy, the theme doesn’t have to be. At Christmas, I’m a traditionalist at heart and love to decorate with red and green. I’ve found that by going for deeper shades of these festive colours, you can create an elegant setting. Think rich claret and forest greens. Teamed with glimmering crystal glasses, votives and ornaments, and the gleam of polished silver, the effect is truly magical. For a fresh accent, last year I made candle wreaths from glossy holly leaves. They’re incredibly spiky, so I advise to wear gloves, but they look wonderful. I might do the same again this year.

Festive finery

December is one of the few times of year that you have an excuse to dress up – and I intend to make the most of it! Even if I’m the one doing all the cooking, I love a bit of glamour, and sparkling earrings are my accessory of choice. This year, the ‘Leta’ earrings from Gingiberi are high on my wishlist (darling husband, I hope you are reading this!). Recently, I’ve discovered the Black Honey mascara from Clinique, and I think it’s perfect for that festive flourish. Though, I’ve been wearing it every day, to be honest. It’s a cherry-toned black that really makes blue, green, hazel and brown eyes pop. I promise it’s not scary – I’m conservative when it comes to make-up and it’s my new staple. As for what I’ll be wearing on The Big Day, I haven’t decided yet. And actually, it’s probably more important that I don a beautiful apron! I’ll be
wearing it long enough.

Every year, Keren and her sister end up in hysterics as they attempt to recreate a Christmas cake their mum used to bake. “We make it the same way every year, but the recipe says things like ‘a pinch of this’ and ‘a dash of that’, so we’re there going, ‘What does this even mean?!’” Keren says with a laugh.

It’s one of those festive traditions that may not make much sense, but it brings joy and meaning to the season. “You miss the people who you don’t have around anymore, so it’s kind of bittersweet at the same time,” acknowledges Keren, whose mother’s absence is deeply felt.

Now, with her husband Mathew and their two children, Lennox, eight, and Quinn, five, making the season magical matters more than ever. The family moved into their “eclectic but classic” Art Deco home six years ago, though to Keren it feels like yesterday. “When we first walked in, Lennox was around two years old,” she recalls. “I said to Mat, ‘If we get this house, I can hear his little footsteps running down the hallway.’ It was so strange, I could feel it in my body. Now, we have two kids who run up the hallway.”

Making her Christmas tree ornaments

It’s not just her own children Keren hopes to pass the festive spirit on to. As the founder of Fledge & Thread, she crafts Christmas ornaments that find homes far and wide. “I’ve got collectors around the world who buy a few pieces every year to pass on to future generations,” she says. “It’s so lovely, it makes me quite emotional, actually.”

Like Santa, the talented illustrator will be busy in her workshop in the lead-up to Christmas, creating 12 one-of-a-kind baubles. From a little duck, to a labrador with a red bow, each is handpainted with a charming animal in a festive scene. “As a child, I used to imagine these little creatures in the woods behind our house, so I think I draw on that,” Keren says.

This year, there will be a select number of handpainted wooden rocking horses, too. “Last year, I only launched three of them and they sold out straightaway,” she says. But perhaps the most delightful new piece of work to come from Fledge & Thread this year is an audio Christmas story series, designed to accompany the baby rompers and children’s pyjamas. “The stories have the same characters in them as the ones on the Christmas range,” Keren explains. “I thought it would be a really nice connection for kids, because they love stories around Christmastime.”

It will be a merry buzz of activity in her home studio for several more weeks, before Keren, Mathew and their children head down the coast to see Keren’s dad, sister, brother and their families. “I think that was the biggest thing for Mum, she always wanted us to stay together and close as a family,” shares Keren – and that’s one tradition that needs no explanation.
